Vietnam Association for Intellectual Women (VAFIW)

Kick-Off Roundtable of Joint ASEAN-IPR & ERIA Research Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and Women in the Digital Economy (WDE): Understanding Synergies for the Future of ASEAN

Starting Point

The Association is a member organisation of the Vietnam Women's Union. It operates independently, with its Charter approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Association comprises 35 affiliated branches and 8 member associations across major provinces and cities: Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Dak Lak, Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, and Hai Phong. The Vietnam Association of Intellectual Women has steadily grown, reaffirming its central role in gathering, uniting, and promoting the creativity of female intellectuals. Starting with 350 members at its inception, it now has nearly 6,000 members across various fields. Among them are 24 Professors, over 224 Associate Professors, 727 Doctors, and nearly 2,000 Masters. Many members have received honours domestically and internationally, including scientific awards such as the State Prize for Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh Prize, Vifotex Prize, as well as international awards and grants from foreign funds (such as the Sophia Kovalevskaia Fund and the L'Oréal-UNESCO Fund) recognising female scientists, along with numerous other prestigious honours. Most members of the Vietnam Intellectual Women’s Association undertake key roles in science and technology at universities, major research institutes, academies, and in management at all levels.

Peace Journey

The Vietnam Intellectual Women Association consistently values discovering, honouring, and supporting female intellectuals to foster their talents. We have organised many activities to provide opportunities for members to communicate, learn, share experiences, and grow together.

The Association aims to promote and enhance the role of female intellectuals in scientific research. By organising over 100 scientific seminars; hundreds of research projects published and presented at national conferences have demonstrated the capacity of Vietnamese female intellectuals to significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

Moreover, the Association also concentrates on supporting female intellectuals in technology transfer and the commercialisation of research products. We have organised numerous training courses on intellectual property, connecting scientists with businesses and fostering environments for female intellectuals' research outputs to be applied in practice.

Success Stories

The Association successfully supports female scientists, engineers, and experts in asserting their positions and roles in the field of science and technology, as women in Vietnam often face gender prejudice in their pursuit of scientific research. It becomes a place where women scientists come together and contribute their best to the community's development.
