Starting Point
Noraida Chio holds multiple roles in conflict resolution and development, with a focus on the fragile regions of Mindanao. She serves as the programme manager, team leader, on-site coach, facilitator, and resource person in the areas of gender. She also handles conflict management and peacebuilding, and humanitarian response. Further, she takes part in socialising the importance of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) as well as proposing alternative learning systems.
Her background serves as a strong basis for her current endeavour. She holds a master’s degree in Peace and Development Studies and has developed her expertise at UNESCO-Hamburg. Additionally, she completed a short-term course on Managing NGO Resource Centres at the Coady International Institute in Canada. She underwent specialised training in Gender, Women’s Leadership, and Peacebuilding at the American University in Washington, D.C.
Peace Journey
Ms. Chio has 25 years of extensive experience in fragile and conflict-affected areas of Mindanao, Philippines. In carrying out her role, she is a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment within Islam. She plays a vital role in a network of Bangsamoro women leaders dedicated to enhancing unity, cooperation, and coordination among Muslim women, while combating violent extremism and promoting peace and development in Mindanao.
Success Stories
She currently leads The Asia Foundation’s CARE for Peace project, which is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Australian Partnerships for Peace. Through her work, she seeks to foster long-term stability and development in conflict-affected areas.
