Starting Point

Ms. Nila Aye was involved in the Internal Peace Building. She served as a mediator for individuals reintegrating into society. They are usually from those who used to belong to an armed group perceived as the adversaries of the current authority. In building peace, she believed that it is the responsibility of every citizen to act. The difference lies in how the citizen can contribute to the peace itself. She highlighted that a nation can only develop and prosper when peace, stability, and collective efforts exist. In finding aspiration in realising this perspective, her role model is Margaret Thatcher.

Peace Journey

Further, Ms. Nila Aye played a mediating role in the peace process. Although there was no initial intention to engage in the peace process, she became involved in assisting people in need. She helped individuals who wanted to leave the armed groups through negotiations with the military and other organisations. She also provided counselling for those struggling with mental health issues and served as a liaison officer.

Success Stories

Her efforts related to peacebuilding have been successful. She intends to continue this work in the future as well. Despite being a woman, she went to the dangerous places under life-threatening circumstances. However, she acknowledged that the chances of women participating in the peace process are still slim. She suggested that women should be encouraged to build on their existing skills and expertise rather than practising discrimination based on differences.
