Starting Point

Israela Krissan Sala, known as Sala, is the founder of the Guadalupe Women’s Community, or GWC, an organisation dedicated to supporting marginalised women, children, and youth in the Guadalupe area of Cebu City. The GWC focuses on addressing the community's unique challenges, particularly concerning women's rights, social welfare, and empowerment.

In addition to her work with the GWC, Sala serves as the Secretary-General of One Guadalupe, an initiative that seeks to drive the development of the Guadalupe area in Cebu City. Sala plays a key leadership role in this capacity, working alongside community leaders and organisations to tackle critical issues such as urban poverty, access to education, and community support.

Sala is also an active member of the Union of Progressive Students (UPS), a student organisation committed to advocating for progressive reforms in both the educational system and society. Sala contributes to campaigns that promote social justice, educational reform, and the broader goals of positive societal transformation.

Peace Journey

The GWC advocates for gender equality and works towards uplifting the status and well-being of women and children in the area, fostering a sense of solidarity and self-empowerment among residents. In parallel, One Guadalupe's efforts align with the broader goals of social justice and progressive change, seeking to create a more equitable and sustainable environment for the people of Guadalupe. Similarly, UPS is also involved in social issues, often by organising protests, campaigns, and initiatives to push for change.

In all her roles, Sala has demonstrated a deep commitment to addressing social inequalities and advocating for women's rights. Her work is focused on empowering marginalised communities, with a particular emphasis on women, children, and youth. Whether through her efforts with the GWC, One Guadalupe, or her activism with the UPS, Sala has consistently championed progressive reforms that seek to create more inclusive and equitable opportunities for those who are often left behind.

Her advocacy work at both the local and national levels has highlighted her strong dedication to activism and social change. She strives to create systems and structures that not only address the immediate needs of marginalised groups but also work toward long-term societal transformation.

Success Stories

Through her leadership in various organisations, Sala has been instrumental in creating safe spaces where children can explore and understand the complexities of gender, sexuality, and safety in a manner appropriate for their age. By fostering an environment of open dialogue, she helps break down stereotypes and empowers young minds to think critically about issues related to gender equality, sexuality, and personal safety. This approach not only allows children to navigate these important topics but also encourages them to develop a strong sense of self-awareness and respect for others.
