Hmuaki Ralti

Kick-Off Roundtable of Joint ASEAN-IPR & ERIA Research Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and Women in the Digital Economy (WDE): Understanding Synergies for the Future of ASEAN

Starting Point

The Presbyterian Church of Myanmar (PCM) selected Hmuaki Ralti as its representative, which became her first step in engaging with the peace process. The Church aims to negotiate with the conflicting groups for the safe return of the displaced people. In her opinion, groups involved in conflicts have the responsibility for negotiation. Only negotiation among all parties concerned will bring the ultimate goal of peace. The government has been negotiating with its best efforts to decrease the tension of conflicts. These efforts are not yet successful.

Peace Journey

She participated in the Presbyterian Church of Myanmar General Assembly as a female member. And, so do in religious activities. On challenges, women are frequently suffering from domestic violence and rapes in her native land. In her region, there are difficulties since there is no designated office to file complaints and no particular official to take action. She feels sad for displaced people who are avoiding conflicts.

Success Stories

She could prevent conflicts and help displaced people return home. The Presbyterian Church of Myanmar provides assistance to displaced people and gives children access to education. She wishes to work for peace and the development of underdeveloped villages and communities.

It would be appropriate for women to participate in all sectors of the peace process, and it would be better if the ratio of men and women in peace organisations were equal.
