Starting Point

Paska Aceh is a non-governmental organisation that works to develop economic opportunities for those affected by the Aceh conflict. It was established due to concerns regarding the new challenges encountered by survivors following rehabilitation after the conflict, particularly in the economy. Founded in 2002, the organisation has experienced ups and downs. However, due to Indonesian sociopolitical issues in 2003, it was forced to operate in a vacuum and continued to conduct its activities underground until it became openly active again in 2005.

Peace Journey

Paska Aceh is involved in conflict management and post-conflict rehabilitation. It focuses on educating children of conflict survivors for a better life. It also plays a vital role in educating the Acehnese community about the history of Aceh's past conflicts, the value of human rights awareness, dealing with trauma, and community empowerment.

Its efforts to empower the community include providing training in handicrafts and food processing. More than 200 women have been involved, and they have established Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises collectively. The proceeds from selling these handicrafts and processed foods have boosted the economy of survivors in post-conflict Aceh.

Success Stories

Paska Aceh has faced some challenges in carrying out its activities with the shrinking civic space in Indonesia. The organisation has found it difficult in raising funds to continue carrying out its work.

Despite its limitations, Paska Aceh continues to empower through mentoring and business training, thereby enhancing the community's economic well-being. It is also active in other social movements, such as advocating for conflict and Tsunami refugees, including Rohingya refugees. As a result, many Acehnese conflict survivors and refugees have received assistance, particularly in terms of economic support.
