Starting Point
Kay Thi works at the Lairawn Baptist Association (LBA-MST) in Myanmar. She participated in a peaceful demonstration and prayed during the takeover of power in 2021. She also serves in mitigation. Since the days of her seniors, they have been assisting children and mothers. She also gives vocational training to women for their livelihoods.
Peace Journey
She has not directly participated in the peace processes but hopes to achieve nationwide peace. She doesn’t know precisely about the peace process, but learns about it through the news and newspapers. Such actions have not yet succeeded. Only meetings are being held in the cities, which are impossible to implement in areas facing conflicts. Their organisation performs prayers. It is challenging to draw strategies to achieve peace.
As a laywoman of the Christian mission, she performs religious practices. She also provides vocational training for young women once a year. Furthermore, she attended training on peace studies via Zoom meeting in Myanmar. She also provides assistance to displaced people of her native land who fled from conflict areas. She wishes to take part anywhere that is in need and deed. She is also interested in research and women’s empowerment.
Success Stories
She senses that their organisation has achieved a manageable skill, and they continue to assist as much as possible to meet the needs of victims. Lessons learnt were that what matters most is to keep carrying on rather than being discouraged and doing nothing. There should be opportunities for women to stand tall on their own feet.
The key challenge for their organisation is being unable to provide financial assistance. Vocational Training courses like dress-making courses are not interesting to women because of their low income. It would be appropriate for women to participate in specific sectors that are suitable and lucrative for them.
