Carolyn O. Arguillas is a key advocate for peace in the Philippines, driven by her commitment to journalistic integrity and inclusive media representation. She was the Editor-in-Chief of MindaNews until 1 June 2023. She currently leads the Publications, Archives, and Library division. She also serves as a Special Reports Editor and a Professorial Lecturer at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of the Philippines and a Master’s Degree in Journalism from the Asian Centre for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University.

Her impact on peace journalism has transformed the media landscape, improved reporting and promoted understanding of political, social, and economic issues in Mindanao. Her dedication to responsible journalism and peacebuilding solidifies her role as a vital figure in creating a more inclusive society.
Under her leadership, MindaNews has gained recognition for its positive reporting on peace initiatives, fostering dialogue and understanding. The organisation has played a crucial role in major milestones in the nation’s peace processes, including the peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro people, and in highlighting the policymaking process that ultimately culminated in the passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law.

Throughout her career, Ms. Arguillas has received numerous awards, including the Catholic Mass Media Awards for Best News Reporting, the Jaime V. Ongpin Awards for Investigative Journalism, the Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Titus Brandsma-Philippines, and the Hildegarde Awards for Women from St. Scholastica’s College. She has also been named Investigative Journalist of the Year by the Rotary Club of Manila, received the Marshall McLuhan Prize from the Canadian Embassy, Gawad AKAp Peace Awards, and the Glory Award for Journalism from the UP College of Mass Communication Alumni Association.
In 2023, Arguillas was honoured with the Luxembourg Peace Prize for Outstanding Peace Journalism, becoming the first Filipino recipient of the award in its 11-year history. She is one of five laureates recognised at the awards ceremony in Luxembourg.
